Flat Lay Photography NYC — FAQ

What is flat lay photography?

Flat lay photography — also called overhead product photography — captures garments, accessories, and products arranged on a flat surface and photographed directly from above. It creates a clean, consistent presentation ideal for e-commerce product pages, fashion collections, social media, and commercial content.

How much does flat lay photography cost in NYC?

Our standard flat lay photography rate is $50 per image for 1–15 images. Volume pricing is available for larger collections, decreasing to $40 per image for 51+ images. Professional retouching and full commercial usage rights are included. Visit our price list for current volume rates.

What is included in the price?

Every standard project includes professional lighting, product preparation and steaming when required, high-resolution medium-format capture, professional retouching, color correction, high-resolution and web-ready files, and full commercial usage rights. Advanced styling, custom surfaces, complex arrangements, or unusually demanding products may require a custom quote.

What products are suited for flat lay photography?

Flat lay photography works especially well for shirts, knitwear, denim, folded garments, accessories, scarves, bags, belts, hats, and styled product arrangements. It is also useful for garments or products that do not require the three-dimensional shape created by ghost mannequin photography.

Why do you use a high-resolution medium-format camera system?

We use a high-resolution medium-format camera system to capture fine fabric texture, accurate color, and subtle tonal detail. Its extended dynamic range helps preserve detail in black and dark products while maintaining clean highlight information in white and light-colored materials. This is especially useful for e-commerce collections where consistent color and material detail are important across an entire product range.

Can I combine flat lay and ghost mannequin photography in the same order?

Yes. Mixed orders are available for collections that require different presentation styles. Flat lay can be used for folded garments and accessories, while ghost mannequin photography can be used for pieces that benefit from a more three-dimensional shape. Visit our ghost mannequin photography page for details about that service.

Do I need to be present during the shoot?

No. Most clients ship their products directly to our Brooklyn studio and receive finished files digitally. If you’d like to attend or provide real-time art direction, you’re welcome — but it is not required.

Can I ship my products to your studio?

Yes. We accept shipments from brands across NYC, New Jersey, and nationwide. Ship your products directly to our Brooklyn studio and we handle product preparation, photography, retouching, and digital file delivery. Return shipping can be arranged upon request.

What is the turnaround time?

Standard turnaround is 3–5 business days from the shoot date. Rush options may be available depending on project size and production schedule. Timing is confirmed before each project.

What backgrounds and surfaces do you offer?

Clean white and light neutral backgrounds are available for standard e-commerce flat lay photography. Custom colors, textured surfaces, and styled arrangements can also be produced on request depending on the creative direction of the project.

What file formats do you deliver?

We deliver high-resolution JPEG files as standard, along with web-ready files optimized for e-commerce use. PNG files with transparent backgrounds are available upon request. Finished files are delivered digitally through a download link.

Do I receive full commercial usage rights?

Yes. Every project includes full commercial usage rights. Finished images can be used on your website, Shopify store, Amazon listings, marketplaces, social media, lookbooks, and paid advertising with no additional licensing fees.
